The materials used to restore the historic building are all upcycled – bricks, doors, chairs, tiles, walls… from those that were in the construction at the earliest 1900 when it was built. They have been given a new purpose and life as part of the unique furniture design. Upcycling.
Hostel building overflows with Eco-consciousness using aero thermal energy to provide the hostel with efficient hot water, AC and heating systems.
The ensuite bathrooms are stocked with body lotion-shampoo and hand soap refilled instead of using the classic hotel amenities that generate lots of plastic waste with all that “one use packaging”.
Water is a very precious resource all over the world and much more in Andalusia, where there has been water shortage in the last decades, using push buttons in the showers you contribute to take care of this scarce and valuable resource.
Timing Detector Lighting; Recycling Facilities; Water-Saving Taps; “Reuse Corner” for guests to dispose of their used items and grab what they need from previous guests; Book Exchange; Recycled paper for notes; reusable token system for all internal customer purchases; Glass cups recycled from old jam jars; Tours on foot or always using public transportation...
Plastic-free: paper bags for pack lunches; potato starch bags to store food for customers; reuse bags in supermarket orders; cloth laundry bags; reusable cutlery and plates.
And last but not less, this hostel is managed by locals. We especially love all the small details that raise awareness on how to live in a sustainable way spread throughout ECO hostel. For sure we can do more and our purpose it is to keep on learning everyday trying to combine tough government demands for lodging with sustainable initiatives that comply with all the regulations. |
